Get to Grips with the Potter's Wheel
The apprentice’s path.
In this overview of throwing techniques for beginners you will learn how to use a potter’s wheel (throwing) and how to glaze your own pots. At the end of the course you will be able to identify and select appropriate techniques and processes to make simple cups and bowls.
Content:
Wheel control, posture, centering, coning, opening up, collaring in, lifting a wall, compressing walls and rims, shaping bowls, using a rib, wiring-off, turning foot rings, wipe down, using a chuck, skimming and trimming pots. Glazing: selecting glazes and applying glazes to bisc. Good practice: managing workspaces and resources to avoid common technical problems.
Exceptions: weekend and 3 day courses do not include learning how to glaze. Your pots will be glazed and fired in our transparent house glaze.

Duration: 12-15 hours.
Includes: non-refundable booking fee (2.5% of ticket value), clay up to a quota of 2.5kg (unfired weight). We provide you with clean aprons and all tools and equipment.
