Autumn programme 2021
What’s in Chris’ boxes? We’re ready to tell you!
New glaze courses this autumn
This Autumn we’re adding two new glaze courses and two new studio sessions.
Students on all Level 1 courses and above are invited to select between the house glaze applied by Sunken Studio or add-on glaze application workshop. Add-on sessions are 2.5 hours long. They are scheduled approximately four weeks after the last day of a four week course. Glaze add-ons are not listed on the website. A private booking link will be sent on receipt of an eligible booking. Check individual listings and confirmation emails for further details.
Level 0: Glaze Add-On
Learn how to select appropriate glazes and apply them to bisc. Optimise your workspace and resources to establish good practices and avoid common application flaws. Choose from a selection of glazes and develop an understanding of how to solve technical problems presented by a variety of glazes, shapes and volumes.
Our second new addition is Level 0: Raw Materials Lab.
Level 0: raw materials lab
In this 4 week course you will learn about the raw materials used in ceramics, you will deconstruct clays and glazes to develop an understanding of their similarities. Explore the ceramics spectrum - discover how the same raw materials behave in different combinations and conditions.
New studio courses this autumn
On Monday afternoons and evenings we now have new courses aimed at anyone wanting to explore a range of techniques and processes. You must have a basic understanding of, and experience using, techniques and processes relevant to each specialisation - throwing and/or handbuilding. Sessions will be facilitated by tutors and include demonstrations, tutorials and peer learning. Full Studio Members can access these sessions for free (see below). Non-members please book in 4 week blocks. Blocks are not sequential - we’ll be responding to each cohort’s interests. Signup for as many as you feel you need.
Level 2: Handbuilder’s Studio
The content and pace of this course is flexible. You will elect a focus from a selection of curated forms and techniques. We’ll revisit, and introduce new, coil, slab, pinching, extruding and decorative techniques. Each session will include demonstrations to encourage independent surface, form, material and design experiments. You will broaden your technical understanding and problem solving skills.
You must have some experience making pots by hand. Ideally having completed a L1 course with Sunken Studio (or equivalent) and logged around 10 hours of independent practice.
