Balls
Studio: the tennis balL
There’s a tennis ball blocking our drain. It’s a massive headache. In summer I rushed to the studio to bail rain water from the back of the studio. After shifting 500 litres I became overwhelmed and the flood water reached our kilns.
As I write this we have a couple of engineers trying to extract the tennis ball with a hot corkscrew. It’s their last attempt before the heavy drilling gear comes out. I hear a few groans.
The ball has dislodged. It’s travelled further down the pipe… It’s gone underneath the bathroom…
A jet wash and a bit of reassurance is needed as I begin to imagine disruption to workshops... 10 minutes later!
Hack: the ball stylus
When we need a lot of one thing we tend to improvise. Cue our ball relate hack: the ball stylus. We fashioned this from a Bic mechanical pencil and map pin. We have a selection of pro ones too, but making your own tools is always satisfying. Watch what we us it for.
Golden glow
Our glazes don't glow in the dark, but we do have a gold. We made it our mission to devise a varied colour palette from one oxide: iron oxide - cheap, abundant and not radioactive.
