On Sunday 24 November, 10am-4pm we hosted our first Winter Open Day and Member’s sale.

Awe, crumbs... where to start? It was great! The cosiest, most scented & tactile Open Day to date!

We hosted wheel thrown pottery workshops, experimented with sprig moulds and made a giant wreath with botanical stylist Zosia from The Plant Room.

Three years on & a really big studio later. I’m often asked about my proud moments. Most of the time I don’t have time or space to relish. But, occasionally there are mini moments. The day before our open day it was watching our studio members sharing ideas while I taught a wheel class. Ultimately, we’re working towards creating opportunities for people to use our space and be part of a community. Sitting at a wheel teaching people beginning to learn techniques & witnessing people beginning a journey of independence is affirming. Yes, that’s what it’s about - where we are & where we are going.

Additionally, on Sunday, our members introduced friends & family. They’re owning the space and sharing it.

Chris had the epic task of teaching 30 people how to throw tiny pots off the hump. He’s new to the team but knows what’s what when it comes to production throwing and pretty much everything else related to studio life & beyond.

He tasked people with making the tiniest pot and the most tiny pots. It was a close call. We had to whittle out pots with holes and the tiniest two came down to a weigh off. The winning tiniest pot was less than 2cm tall & 4.2 grams, nearly half the weight of its nearest rival.

As well as a big leafy wreath we also have clay ones too. They look like cakes - which messes with my cake-centric brain.
